Tuesday October 8th, 2019 - 7:30PM - Grenache-Syrah-Mourvèdre Tasting

Our summer wine tasting hiatus is (finally) over and we are busily planning our next tasting at 7:30PM on Tuesday October 8th featuring "GSM" (Grenache-Syrah-Mourvèdre) wines, one of the world's classic wine blends which is the basis of the Côte du Rhône (France). Grenache probably originated from Aragón in modern Spain (or possibly Sardinia in modern Italy), Syrah from France, and Mourvèdre from Catalonia as planted by the Phoenicians, making the blend international as well as diverse. Château-du-Pape (heavy on the Grenache) may be the most famous, but GSMs are also produced in other parts of the Rhône (with generally more emphasis on Syrah), Australia (where "Syrah" is often known as Shiraz, and is commonly and deliciously blended with Cabernet), as well as California, where the producers are sometimes referred to as the Rhone Rangers (we might even sneak one of these in). We do not promise that we will limit ourselves to these regions, but we will try to stick to the classic blends. The cost will be $25 for members and $30 for non-members.
