Tuesday November 1st, 2016 - 7:30PM - Petite Sirah Tasting
Our next tasting will be at 7:30PM on Tuesday November 1st. The tasting will be drawn from a collection of Petite Sirahs.
Note that Petite Sirah is a completely different grape variety than Syrah or even Petite Syrah (a name used for a subvariety in parts of France). The style of Petite Sirah is closer to the body and spiciness of a Zinfandel than it is to Syrah. Based on DNA finger printing, it turns out to be Durif. Durif is a cross of Syrah and Peloursin. About 10% of the Petite Sirah in California is actually Peloursin.
Durif came from France, but it is seldom grown there today.
The only places outside of California that grow substantial amounts of Durif are Australia and Israel.
The cost will be our usual $25 for members and $30 for non-members.
Members get an exclusive right to sign up for this tasting through Thursday October 20th. After that it will be opened to non-members.
Advanced signup is required. If interested, please sign up by sending us email at wine-rsvp@neophilic.com.
